Mature Thoughts
Raina was wishing sheâd done her laundry earlier in the week. Or even yesterday morning before she went to Codyâs. Now sheâd have to go to her parents in what she was thinking might be somewhat like the walk of shame.
No. No. That was wrong to feel that way. To even think that way.
There was nothing shameful in what she had with Cody. With what they did last night and shared with their conversation this morning.
Her parents knew she wasnât a virgin. Itâs just they never knew when she spent the night with a man before. Not coming home last night told them the activity sheâd been participating in.
The minute her fatherâs car pulled away, she grabbed her laundry and went down the stairs and to her parentsâ house.
âI figured youâd show up when he left,â her mother said.
âDid you tell him to leave so that we could talk?â she asked.
âI might have sent him to the store,â her mother said.
âYou could have come to see me.â
âI could have but wanted to see if you would come to do your laundry like you always do.â
âIâm here,â she said, moving toward the laundry room and putting her clothes in, thankful her parents had heavy duty machines and she could do two massive loads rather than several small ones.
âHow was your night?â
âIt was good,â she said, grinning.
When her mother sighed, her grin got bigger. She was just playing, but felt her mother should ask her directly what was on her mind. âYour father is worried.â
âThere is no reason for him to be. I thought he liked Cody. I thought you did too.â
âWe did from that one meeting. From what you say about him. Iâm going to assume this is the first time youâve slept with him? Or just the first time you spent the night.â
âBoth,â she said. âThe first time I spent the full night with any man.â
âAnd you didnât sleep well?â her mother asked. âOr was there another reason for the bags under your eyes?â
âDonât you ask me if Iâve got regrets too.â
âSo Cody thought you did?â her mother asked, following her out of the laundry room and into the kitchen. She grabbed a coffee cup and went to turn the Keurig on. She needed another hit of caffeine in the worst way.
âHe brought it up. He thought that was why I didnât sleep well, but it had more to do with not being comfortable with someone next to me in bed. And that itâs hard to get comfortable in another bed right away.â
âIt is,â her mother agreed. âWere you upset he asked if you had regrets?â
âI was slightly annoyed. I mean he was holding back more than me. I wanted to have sex two weeks ago.â
âReally? Why was he holding back?â
âBecause he wanted me to be sure. I asked him that too. I worried if he thought I was dirty or something.â
âHe wouldnât think that,â her mother said.
âI know. I didnât think he would, but I wouldnât know for sure unless I asked.
